Periodic Motion of a Swinging Atwood's MachineAbstract
The swinging Atwood machine in which we are interested here is a conservative
Hamiltonian system with two degrees of freedom. The behavior of this system is
essentially determined by nonlinear terms in its differential equations of motion.
In this talk we discuss a method of constructing a periodic solution to the
equations of motion which describes a state of dynamic equilibrium when owing to
oscillations a body of smaller mass balances a body of larger mass.
